Welcome to 5th ​Grade Math & Science!

Fifth grade curriculum meets the educational requirements ​established by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce as ​outlined by the ODE Standards by Grade Level: Fifth Grade and fully ​described in the ODE Learning Content Standards. Both documents ​are available at https://education.ohio.gov/.

Area 1

Operations and Algebraic ​Thinking (OA)

  • Write and interpret ​numerical expressions
  • Analyze patterns and ​relationships

Area 2

Numbers and Operations in ​Base Ten (NBT)

  • Understand the place value ​system
  • Operations with multi-digit ​numbers & decimals to the ​hundredths

Area 3

Numbers and Operations - ​Fractions (NF)

  • Use equivalent fractions to ​add & subtract fractions
  • Extend understanding of ​multiplication & division to ​fractions

Area 4

Measurement & Data (MD)

  • Convert like measurements ​within given measurement ​system
  • Represent & interoret data
  • Geometric measurement: ​understand volume

Area 5

Geometry

  • Graph points on the ​coordinate plane to solve ​problems
  • Classify two-dimensional ​figures into categories ​based on their properties

enVision Math ​Program

enVision® Mathematics was developed to help children ​see the math. The program includes resources to help ​families see the math as well. Use the link below the ​photo to access topic- and lesson-level support.

Assessments

At the beginning of each topic, students will be given a ​pretest followed by a posttest at the end of each topic.

Homework

Students will typically be given math homework Monday through Thursday. It typically will consist of an online ​assignment that can be accessed through Clever > Savvas Easy Bridge > enVision® Mathematics

Supply Expectations

Planner

Homework will be in ProgressBook and ​written on the board daily. Students will be ​expected to write the assignment in their ​planner at the start of class.

Math/Science Binder

Students need a 1 - 1.5" binder for math ​resources, incomplete work, science ​resources, and growth mindset paperwork. ​Students will need graph paper and lined ​paper in the binder.

Keep in Step with the Times

iPad

Students will need their iPad most evenings ​for math homework. It is the responsibility of ​the student to complete the homework and ​charge their iPad nightly.

  • IXL for Fifth Grade (access through ​CLEVER or the iPad app)

Math Grading Policies & Work ​Expectations

  • All math assignments will be graded on a point system.
  • Students will typically receive math homework Monday through Thursday. Each homework assignment is worth 2 points.
  • Students will be expected to consistently show their work, check their work, and label answers for full credit.
  • Most story problems will be graded out of 3 points:
  1. Show your work and set up the problem correctly
  2. Solve for the correct answer
  3. Label the answer correctly
